What Are The Most Common Styles Of Driveway Gates?

There are many different styles of wooden driveway gates that you can purchase “off-the-shelf”. But this shouldn’t limit you to those styles alone! Here at B&K Timber, we can create bespoke gates to suit your own style and needs.
Creating your own design can be a bit of a minefield with so many options available for you to choose from. So the best place to start is to look at some of the most common styles of driveway gates! Don’t be put off by the word common, we can always adjust the design to make it unique to you, but they are usually so popular due to the structure of the gate and the longevity of the design.

Westport Gate

One of our most popular designs for driveways is the Westport Gate. This classic design features a solid stud tenon section to the base of the gate, and usually a minimum of 2 thirds up the gate. The design is then topped off with an open slatted design that peaks at the far ends of the gates.
This style is popular due to the strength and stability of the stud tenon section. Combined with the visibility you get through the slats. And topped off with the added design aspect of the peaked sides. Making this design not only practical, but stylish too.
Gates designed in this style can be made in a range of heights to give you the desired final style, so whether you want low gates, or 6ft gates, this design can suit either.

Sherwood Gate

Another common, or popular driveway gate design is our Sherwood Gate. This style of gate offers maximum privacy, particularly if you are having it full height. This style offers a full stud tenon gate, built to the right height for your needs. Whether you simply like the solid appearance combined with the simple straight-line top, or whether you want to increase your privacy with a 6ft version it is a great style for anyone!
The use of stud tenon joins ensures that this gate offers increased strength and can even be used on automatic opening fixtures if required.

Helmsley Gate

A combination of the above two designs is the Helmsley Gate. Featuring the classic straight top of the Sherwood, with the addition of the open slats that are featured on the Westport. As with the other styles, this gate can also be designed to any height you wish, altering the level of privacy your driveway receives. It will also offer all the stability of the other styles with a touch of classic style.
