BK Timber only uses PEFC and FSC certified timber for our softwood driveway gates, available to customers across Staffordshire and Cheshire.
We understand the importance of supporting and safeguarding the forests of the world by using sustainable timber. Our bespoke timber gates are produced from the finest quality Scandinavian, slow-grown, joinery graded redwood timber using a traditional stubbed mortise and tenon joint.
But once installed, how long do softwood gates last for? We will explain their lifespan and their advantages during this blog.
Softwood gates are more cost-effective than their hardwood counterparts, with their typical lifespan being between 7-8 years.
Applying treatment during the first 12 months after being installed, will keep your softwood gates looking spectacular.
They are able to take a stain or be painted during their life span, but it is best to ask which stain or paint is ideal before starting this task.
Attention to detail is crucial when manufacturing softwood gates to ensure a completely smooth finish. BK Timber uses a spirit-based wood preservative, offering two different shades – brown and red cedar for our gates.
Alternatively, you can have a clear preservative to make the timber look untreated.
You can use our measuring guide for more hints and advice on how to measure the gap for posts. We offer two sizes of hooks and bands fixing kits for our timber driveway gates. Our team of specialists would recommend the 24-inch hooks and bands for a gate up to 10 feet wide or 30-inch hooks and bands for a gate up to 12 feet wide.
